Series 6 Poison Bird Water Blind & Land Blind brings us back to the area where we ran the Series 4 Land/Water Marks. The mat is facing Southeast and just left of where the mat for Series 4 was.The wind is steady out of the North, Northwest at times, 11 mph. This wind will be blowing scent off of the poison bird toward the correct line to the water blind. The sun is bright and the temperature is perfect at 54'F. We are looking out over the pond of the Series 4 Land/Water Marks. Positioned is the field deep of the pond and under the arc of the series 4 middle retired mark is a poison bird gun station. The Handler is instructed to come to the line and once they command the dog to "Sit" the judge calls for the poison bird to be thrown and the test begins. The poison bird is Rooster pheasant thrown to the right hard angle back and lands in heavy cover. The land blind cuts the left corner of the pond thru a wall of cover up on the bank to retrieve a hen mallard. This blind is measuring at a 100 yds. The next blind to be performed is the water blind, the true line to the water blind is tight and right of the fall area of the poison bird. This water blind is deep in the field up the hillside measuring at 400 yds. and is situated right of the poison bird station measuring 400 yds. This test is taking about a minute for the short land blind and from 3-4 minutes for the long blind.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!
Short Land Blind … 100 yards
Long Water Blind … 400 yards with rooster poison bird

Thank you to Jay and Raelene Phelps for their help to Retriever News at the National Open and under the tent this week. They have been an invaluable asset to us all week helping us set-up our work space and break it down between tests and at night. They have provided us the use of their ATV and are at the ready anytime we need them …
Thank You, Jay and Raelene!
And another great big thank you to all the other folks who have helped us along the way this week … too many to count, including Joule Charney who has provided the use of a table so we can type the blog!
We have caravanned to a new field just stepping off the road to the South to overlooking a doughnut shaped pond with little water in it. This Series is considered a Land Triple with 2 flyers. The wind is gently blowing out of the North at 0 - 4 mph and the current temperature is 48'F. The sun is bright and the mat is facing Southeast positioned on top of a slight mound. The first bird to be shot in this triple is a Rooster pheasant flyer. The station is a swing to the left of the basin up a hill on the backside of the pond. This station is measuring 260 yds and is throw hard angle back up the hill in light to medium cover, the gunners retire near the edge of the basin into a group of trees. This bird will be referred to as the (RF).The next bird to be shot in this triple is a dead Hen pheasant. This station is up the middle of the test in the bowl of the pond position at the base of a gnarly clump of trees. The Hen is thrown to the left across a spit of water and the gunners retire into an invisible blind. We will refer to this mark as the Middle Retired (MR) it is measuring a 170 yds. The go-bird is a swing to the right of the basin situated on a slight side - hill, it is a Hen pheasant flyer. This flyer is landing in medium cover hard angle back from the gunners just 100 yds off line. It is taking roughly 7 - 9 mins a dog to complete.
GOOD LUCK TO ALL!
